About Project
"Istanbul Stories" is not in production for monetary gain but instead will
be distributed freely online and through physical CD media. The true
intention of this project is to demonstrate the importance of story over
graphical capabilities. Instead of trying to revolutionize the gaming world
through a graphics engine we have decided to concentrate our efforts on
setting atmosphere and tension through the story we will weave in this
survival horror game.
"Istanbul Stories" is also unique in that it is the first survival/horror
type of game set in Turkey and which draws heavily upon Turkish and Ancient
Ottoman mythologies. There will be a forthcoming English translated version
of the game and we have had interest from production companies who would
like to turn this game into a feature film in the future.
Do you think it's ok to be using quotes from the Quran in this game?
Since our country (Turkey) and media are so saturated with ideologies and
symbols of Christian origin we feel no hesitation in using cultural and
religious references that are more local to where the game takes place.
Why are some character names and themes written in Ottoman Turkish language?
"Istanbul Stories" is based on a book written in the 15th Century entitled"The Book of Dark Worlds" Since this book was written in the
ancient Ottoman Turkish language we have borrowed character names and themes
from it. This however does not apply to the entire language of the game
which proudly is in Modern Turkish. A forthcoming English translated version will also use these Ottoman names and themes but will otherwise obviously be
in English.
How can it be free?
Although requiring a lot of time and effort this game is not dependent on
monetary gain. The entire team is continuing to work on a volunteer basis
for a common goal. Web hosting and other expenses are taken care of through
our producer.
Once completed how many CD's will the game be?
The first episode of the game "Last Night on Earth" will be roughly 200 MBs
so it should comfortably fit on one CD.
What are the recommended specs to run the game?
P4 3.0 Ghz CPU, 512 MB RAM, Video Card with 128 MB video memory
Why does the game have a 16+ age restriction? Is it really violent?
No, "Istanbul Stories" is not a violent game per se. However since it is a
horror/survival type of game there will be moments of tension and stress
that may be too much for younger players. This is why we feel it's important
to warn the players and their parents/guardians ahead of time.
